What Critics Like About A Quiet Place: Day One
Despite being a blockbuster horror film, many critics point out that what makes the movie work is its human drama and the central relationship in the story, supported by the excellent performances of Quinn and Academy Award winner Nyong’o. The genuine humanity of the characters in A Quiet Place: Day One sets the prequel apart from other apocalyptic films that prioritize spectacle over substance. The film felt very realistic, emotional, and made hearts beat out of the chest. Despite its character-driven nature, there is still plenty of suspense.
Critics were also drawn to the fact that the prequel provided a refreshing change of pace for the franchise, cleverly expanding the original premise and established lore without merely rehashing what had already been done. Focusing on new characters, shifting the setting to New York City, and setting the story at the start of the alien invasion makes it feel different while still being a valuable addition to the popular franchise. Credit is given to Sarnoski, whose direction and writing make the prequel feel distinct. The actors did a phenomenal job with their characters, and the movie exceeded all expectations.
Even with the high bar set by the previous films, many critics say A Quiet Place: Day One rivals its predecessors, with some even calling it their favorite installment so far. Very intense movie. There is excitement and curiosity about where the franchise could go next, a significant achievement at a time when many other franchises are causing fatigue. If positive reviews continue and A Quiet Place: Day One performs well at the box office, that curiosity might be rewarded with another expansion of the franchise.
