"A Quiet Place: Day One" - Best Yet: A Character-Driven Monster Blockbuster

”A Quiet Place: Day One”  Best Yet

A Quiet Place: Day One debuts with a strong Rotten Tomatoes score. The previous franchise films, A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place Part II, also received positive critical receptions. Instead of following the family from the original films, the prequel focuses on Sam (Lupita Nyong’o) and Eric (Joseph Quinn) in New York City as they struggle to survive the beginning of the alien invasion in the Quiet Place universe. The latest installment is directed and written by Michael Sarnoski, with the story developed by Sarnoski and franchise star and previous director John Krasinski.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, A Quiet Place: Day One has a critical score of 88%, a very new rating alongside the critical scores of 96% for A Quiet Place and 91% for A Quiet Place Part II, continuing an impressive streak for the horror franchise. The prequel’s score is based on 50 reviews so far and is likely to change during the opening weekend and its theatrical run. There is no audience score yet.

What Critics Like About A Quiet Place: Day One

Despite being a blockbuster horror film, many critics point out that what makes the movie work is its human drama and the central relationship in the story, supported by the excellent performances of Quinn and Academy Award winner Nyong’o. The genuine humanity of the characters in A Quiet Place: Day One sets the prequel apart from other apocalyptic films that prioritize spectacle over substance. The film felt very realistic, emotional, and made hearts beat out of the chest. Despite its character-driven nature, there is still plenty of suspense.

Critics were also drawn to the fact that the prequel provided a refreshing change of pace for the franchise, cleverly expanding the original premise and established lore without merely rehashing what had already been done. Focusing on new characters, shifting the setting to New York City, and setting the story at the start of the alien invasion makes it feel different while still being a valuable addition to the popular franchise. Credit is given to Sarnoski, whose direction and writing make the prequel feel distinct. The actors did a phenomenal job with their characters, and the movie exceeded all expectations.

Even with the high bar set by the previous films, many critics say A Quiet Place: Day One rivals its predecessors, with some even calling it their favorite installment so far. Very intense movie. There is excitement and curiosity about where the franchise could go next, a significant achievement at a time when many other franchises are causing fatigue. If positive reviews continue and A Quiet Place: Day One performs well at the box office, that curiosity might be rewarded with another expansion of the franchise.

Oddity – A Promising Thriller That Sparks Diverse Opinions Movie Review

Oddity - An Ambitious Thriller That Fizzles Out Despite a Strong Start and Stellar Soundtrack Oddity starts with a promising opening, quickly grabbing the viewer's attention and setting expectations for an intense and thrilling experience. The eerie atmosphere in the first few scenes is skillfully crafted, with just enough ambiguity to pique curiosity. The visual aesthetic complements the mystery, immersing the audience in a world that feels both familiar and unsettling. However, despite this strong beginning, the initial spark fades as the movie progresses, giving way to a plot that gradually slows down and, unfortunately, becomes tedious and, frankly, boring. Although the film is categorized as horror and suspense, it seems to struggle with delivering the key elements of these genres. Horror is typically characterized by tension, fear, and unpredictability, but Oddity rarely capitalizes on moments that could evoke these […]

Book Review -The Prince of Mist- by Carlos Ruiz Zafón

The Prince of Mist - Explores the Mysteries of the Past and the Power of Lost Innocence Carlos Ruiz Zafón's The Prince of Mist marks the acclaimed author's first foray into young adult fiction, and it's also the debut novel that laid the foundation for his later, more renowned works. As a longtime fan of The Shadow of the Wind, I was eager to dive into this early creation and explore the beginnings of the themes and storytelling techniques that would later define Zafón’s signature style. The Prince of Mist is a novel filled with early glimpses of Zafón’s characteristic motifs, many of which are more developed in his subsequent works. The story follows dual narratives: the present-day experiences of young Max Carver and his family, newly relocated to a coastal village, and the mysterious events surrounding the death of […]

“Innocent Promise, Eternal Condemnation” – Horror Stories

"Innocent Promise, Eternal Condemnation" – When a game triggers a hellish battle for the soul, the price of curiosity becomes an eternal nightmare. It was a cloudy and rainy day, one of those where the sky seems endless, and the sound of raindrops hitting the roof becomes a monotonous melody. I was at home, as usual, surrounded by the solitude that enveloped me. My only companion was Elly, my cat, who was always near me as if she understood that her presence was the only thing keeping me balanced. That day, the dull routine of watching TV while eating cold pizza repeated itself, accompanied by a few beers trying to fill the void. The ring of my cellphone broke the lethargy. Seeing that it was my mother on the screen, a mix of joy and surprise washed over me. She, […]

Its Name Was Mormo: Challenging Paranormal Activity for the Spotlight

Some are praising Its Name Was Mormo as a Found Footage Masterpiece. If you were lucky enough to see the leaked version - well, if you know you know.
