Setting up their headquarters in an abandoned rail carriage, the teenage team embarks on nightly missions into the neighborhood to investigate the mysterious entity invading their dreams. Review – Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

A Bold Yet Imperfect Reinvention of the Classic Formula Resident Evil 7: Biohazard dares to take bold strides within the storied horror franchise. While some risks hit the mark and others fall short, this first-person reimagining wisely harks back to the series' roots in survival-horror — emphasizing tense exploration and meticulous item management over pure action. This blend of innovation and nostalgia makes it the most enjoyable Resident Evil entry in years. The atmosphere in Resident Evil 7 is a triumph, largely thanks to the unsettling Dulvey plantation, where protagonist Ethan is lured by a mysterious email from his missing wife. If the original Resident Evil games drew inspiration from George A. Romero's zombie films, this installment channels the visceral horror of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, complete with grisly visuals, decrepit shacks, and cannibalistic terror. The Dulvey plantation is a […]

Alan Wake II: Turns the Player’s Mind into Their Greatest Enemy

Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S & PC Release Year: 2023 Developer: Remedy Entertainment Scare Factor: 6 Genre: Adventure game, Survival horror Thirteen years after his wife vanished in Bright Falls, author Alan Wake is trapped in a Dark Place he can't escape. Writing this review of Alan Wake II, I can relate a bit to his predicament. This game is unlike anything I’ve played recently, making it difficult to find the right starting point. Alan Wake II is a single-player adventure that effortlessly transitions between slow-burn psychological terror and frantic survival-horror action. It features stunningly rendered game worlds, striking full-motion video sequences, morbid investigations, and unexpected musical surprises. It's bloody, it's bonkers, and it's mostly brilliant. Even in a year brimming with gaming highlights, Alan Wake II shines brightly.  A Tale of Two Realities Spanning two contrasting realities, Alan Wake […]

Alien: Isolation Reigns as the Ultimate Alien Game Experience

Platforms: Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox 360, PS3, PS4, PS5, PC Release Year: 2014 Developer: Creative Assembly Scare Factor: 9 Genre: Action-Adventure, Stealth, Survival Horror   After nearly seven years since its 2014 debut, Alien: Isolation remains unrivaled in the realm of Alien-themed video games, particularly when compared to recent entries like Aliens: Fireteam Elite. The contrast between these titles underscores a prevailing belief among fans, including myself: that a successful Alien game hinges on its ability to evoke horror or blend action with horror, rather than leaning solely on action. Aliens: Fireteam Elite, while a solid game, lacks the visceral horror that defined the Xenomorphs in Ridley Scott's 1979 classic 'Alien'. Instead, it opts for a more action-packed experience akin to James Cameron's 1986 sequel 'Aliens'. The Xenomorphs, once a source of terror, now serve more as targets […]
