The Eyes in the Darkness of the Room

Luis had always been a curious child, full of life and energy. At just eight years old, his world was filled with bright colors, laughter, and games. However, all of that changed one autumn night when the wind howled like a hungry wolf and the leaves fell from the trees as if stripping bare in the face of the cold. That night, as he prepared to sleep, he felt an unsettling presence in his room.

The light from his night lamp cast dancing shadows on the walls, and Luis couldn’t help but look into the darkness in the corners, where the warm glow of the light didn’t reach. It was then that he saw them: two bright eyes, like two points of light in the darkness, watching him. He froze, feeling his heart pound hard in his chest.

“It’s just your imagination,” he told himself, but the feeling of being watched didn’t fade. The eyes remained there, motionless, as if analyzing every movement. Luis covered himself with the blanket, his mind racing with questions. What were those eyes? Why couldn’t he stop looking at them?

The next day, still trembling from the experience of the previous night, Luis decided to tell his parents. His mother, Ana, was in the kitchen preparing breakfast, and his father, Carlos, was checking emails in the living room. Luis approached, nervous but determined.

“Mom, Dad, I think there’s something in my room. I saw eyes in the darkness last night,” he said, his voice shaking.

Ana looked at him with a kind smile, while Carlos barely glanced up from his computer.

“Luis, dear, there’s nothing in your room. It’s just your imagination. Sometimes shadows play tricks,” Ana replied.

“That’s right, son,” Carlos added with a carefree smile. “Don’t let those fears affect you. The eyes are nothing more than your mind playing tricks.”

Luis felt their words fall like stones into a deep well. He felt small, ridiculous, but deep down he knew there was something more. However, his parents’ denial made him doubt. What if it really was just his imagination?

That night, fear returned. Luis climbed into bed, the light off and the door ajar letting in a beam of light from the hallway. However, when his mother turned off the lights, terror took hold of him. He clutched his pillow, trying to find comfort, but the eyes were there, as always, watching him from the dark corner of the room.

“I need to find out what they are,” he murmured to himself. He couldn’t let those eyes control him.

The next day, he decided to investigate. After school, he headed to the attic of the house, a place he had always considered forbidden. The attic was filled with dusty boxes, broken toys, and forgotten family memories. As he explored, he noticed an old trunk covered in cobwebs. His heart raced with excitement at the thought that perhaps he would find answers there.

Luis pushed the trunk and opened it. Inside, he found old photographs, letters, and a strange small mirror, covered in dust. As he leaned closer to clean it, he felt a cold breeze that raised the hairs on his skin. But what he saw through the mirror was not his own reflection. It was something else.

In the mirror, instead of his face, he saw the silhouette of a dark figure. It was hard to distinguish, but it seemed to be smiling. Luis stepped back, his heart racing. The figure disappeared as quickly as it had appeared, and Luis felt overwhelmed by a mix of fear and curiosity. He decided he had to learn more.

The next night, armed with a flashlight, he returned to the attic. The mirror seemed to call to him, and he couldn’t resist the temptation to look at it again. This time, when he approached, the figure became clearer. It was a boy, with large dark eyes, who seemed trapped in the mirror.

“Help me!” the boy in the mirror whispered, his voice echoing like a distant sound. “Don’t look at the eyes in the darkness.”

Sweat began to trickle down Luis’s forehead. What did that mean? Were they the eyes he had seen in his room? Without thinking, Luis took the mirror and ran back to his room.

Back in his room, Luis illuminated the mirror with the flashlight. The figure was still there, looking at him with palpable desperation. “You can’t stay here; you must leave. They are coming,” the boy said.

Luis felt a chill run down his spine. Gripping the mirror, he looked into the darkness of his room, where the bright eyes awaited him. Determined to face his fear, he slowly advanced toward the dark corner.

“Who are they?” he asked, his voice trembling.

“They are shadows of those who have gone,” replied the boy in the mirror. “They seek someone to replace them. You have to leave before it’s too late.”

Luis looked into the darkness, feeling the pressure of fear. But there was something more, a sense that he needed to uncover the truth. He couldn’t give up.

That night, as the storm raged outside, Luis decided he would confront the eyes in the darkness. With the mirror in hand and his flashlight lighting his path, he stood in the center of his room. The wind howled and the shadows danced on the walls. Luis closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and shouted:

“Show yourself!”

When he opened his eyes, the darkness seemed to have thickened, and the eyes slowly approached. Luis felt a tug in his chest, as if something was trying to pull him toward the shadow. But instead of giving in, he held on to his flashlight and the mirror, feeling stronger.

“I’m not afraid of you!” he shouted, and for a moment, the darkness stopped. The eyes blinked, as if surprised by his bravery.

It was then that he heard a hissing laugh, like a whisper in the wind. “Foolish boy, you can’t win. We have always been here,” said a voice that seemed to emerge from the shadows themselves.

Luis felt an icy coldness inside. But then he remembered the words of the boy in the mirror. “I’m not alone,” he thought. “I have to fight.”

With renewed determination, Luis raised the mirror toward the darkness. “You can’t catch me! I’m not afraid!” he shouted, and the reflection in the mirror began to glow intensely. The boy’s figure smiled, and for an instant, Luis felt a surge of strength.

The eyes drew closer, but the light from the mirror seemed to push them back. A shadow tried to touch him, but the light sliced through the air like a lightning bolt, illuminating the room with dazzling clarity. The darkness retreated, and Luis felt the warmth of hope in his chest.

“Go away! I don’t want you here!” he exclaimed with all the strength he could muster. The eyes wavered, and a terrifying laugh filled the air before fading into a distant scream.

The Sacrifice

Luis fell to his knees, his body exhausted from the struggle. The light from the mirror still shone, but the room felt strange. The shadows began to fade, and the eyes disappeared one by one. However, the figure of the boy in the mirror drew closer.

“Thank you,” said the boy, his eyes now filled with gratitude. “But for this to work, you have to let me go.”

Luis felt a knot in his stomach. “Let you go? What does that mean?”

“If you free me, I too can escape this darkness. But there’s a price. You must take my place,” the boy explained, his face reflecting deep sadness.

“No! I don’t want to do that,” Luis replied, feeling tears well up in his eyes. The thought of leaving his family and life behind was unbearable.

But the boy smiled. “It’s not about leaving everything. It’s about saving others, breaking the cycle. You have the power to do it, and if you don’t, the shadows will never stop.”

Luis fell silent, contemplating the boy’s words. He could feel the darkness returning and knew he had to make a decision. With a heavy heart, he thought of his parents, his home, everything he loved.

“I can’t leave you,” he said, feeling torn. “Isn’t there another way?”

“There is another way,” the boy whispered. “But you will need to be brave. You have to face the darkness within yourself and use it to your advantage.”

Luis understood. He couldn’t run from his fears. He had to confront them and turn them into strength. He closed his eyes and concentrated, recalling the nights of horror, the shadows, and the eyes watching him. He felt small, but he also realized he had grown, that he was stronger than he had ever believed.

“I will do whatever it takes,” he finally said, opening his eyes and looking at the boy. “But I can’t do it alone.”

With renewed light, Luis lifted the mirror toward the darkness once more. “Come, shadows! I’m here! I’m not afraid!” he shouted, and the shadows stopped, surprised.

The light from the mirror shone brightly, and the boy’s figure smiled with pride. Together, they began to work, merging their light with the darkness, transforming each shadow into a glimmer of light.

The walls of the room began to tremble, and the light expanded, filling every corner. The shadows screamed, twisting and struggling, but Luis and the boy stood firm. With each scream, with every beat of his heart, the light grew.

Finally, with one last scream, the shadows began to fade, and Luis felt a wave of relief wash over him. The boy smiled, and before disappearing, said, “You will always be safe, Luis. You have found your light.”

As the light faded and the darkness finally dissipated, Luis found himself alone in his room. The walls were as they always were, and the darkness no longer frightened him. With a sigh of relief, he sank onto his bed, feeling the peace envelop him.

The next morning, he woke to the sound of birds singing. He felt different, stronger. The sunlight streamed through the window, and when he looked in the mirror, he saw his own reflection, full of life.

When his parents entered the room, they were surprised to see the tranquility on his face. “Good morning, champ,” Carlos said, smiling. “Ready for a new day?”

Luis smiled. “Yes, I’m ready,” he replied, knowing that he would always carry the light he had found in the darkness.

However, in the darkest corner of the house, an old mirror remained silent. A new pair of bright eyes appeared on its surface, watching the outside world. Those who had been freed were not truly alone; darkness always found a way to return. But Luis had learned to face his fear, and as long as he had his light, he would never be truly trapped.

Luis looked back one last time, remembering the boy’s words: “There is always a battle between light and darkness.” But now, he had the power to decide which would win.

And so, with his light shining, Luis took a step forward, ready to face the world that awaited him, unafraid of the eyes in the darkness.

Days passed, and Luis immersed himself in his daily life. He attended school, played with his friends, and his family noticed a change in him. His laughter was brighter, his energy more contagious. However, despite the happiness he radiated, there was a part of him that remained cautious, as if an echo of warning resonated in his mind.

The experience in his room, although seeming like a distant memory, had changed him. During the nights, as he settled into bed, he sometimes felt a slight unease, as if the shadows of the past were trying to return. But Luis always told himself he wasn’t afraid, that he had his light and his courage.

The Encounter with Darkness

One afternoon, after school, Luis stopped by an antique shop with his friend Javier. The shop was filled with strange and fascinating objects, from antique clocks to dusty paintings. As they explored, Luis felt drawn to a dark corner of the shop, where an old mirror with a golden frame reflected the shop’s lights.

Without thinking, he approached the mirror. His reflection stared back, but something in its eyes was not the same. In an instant, he found himself transported back to his room, facing the darkness once again, as if the mirror had opened a door to his past.

“What do you want?” Luis asked, feeling cold sweat trickle down his forehead.

“I just want to play,” replied a soft yet mocking voice. It was an echo of the boy he had seen before, but this time it had a more sinister tone.

“Why don’t you go away?” Luis shouted, feeling his courage momentarily wane. But he remembered his previous struggle. “You don’t scare me.”

“There’s always a price to pay,” the voice replied, laughing. “And I will always be here, watching you.”

Luis stepped back, horrified. He realized that, although he had won a battle, the war against darkness was not over. The shadows may have retreated, but they were still present, lurking in the corners of his mind.

Determined not to let fear take over, Luis returned home and locked himself in his room. He took out the old mirror he had found in the attic and sat in front of it. The boy’s figure was still trapped there, but this time his expression was one of concern.

“They’ve come back,” said Luis, his voice steady but filled with fear. “They want to play again.”

“They can’t touch you if you don’t give them power,” replied the boy in the mirror. “You have to remember what you learned. Light will always overcome darkness if you keep it alive.”

Luis took a deep breath. “How can I do that?”

“Remember your light, Luis. Every time you face them, remember the strength you carry within. They can only hurt you if you let them in,” explained the boy, his face lighting up with determination.

That night, as the storm raged outside, Luis felt restless. Once again, the shadows began to move in his room, as if they wanted to trap him in their grasp. But this time, Luis stood firm.

“I’m not afraid!” he shouted, raising the mirror toward the darkness. The light began to shine, and the eyes peeked out, glimmering like beacons in the gloom.

“We are always here, Luis,” they said in unison, their voices full of mockery. “You will never be rid of us.”

Luis felt his heart racing, but he remembered the words of the boy in the mirror. He closed his eyes and focused on the light he carried inside. He visualized every moment he had been brave, every time he had overcome his fears.

“I am stronger,” he declared, and the light from the mirror began to expand, illuminating the room. The shadows writhed and screamed, but Luis did not stop. He clung to the mirror, pushing the light forward, challenging the darkness.

With one last scream, the light from the mirror shot out like a bolt, filling the room with an intense glow. The shadows began to dissipate, and the eyes that had once lurked vanished, screaming in the agony of their defeat.

Luis fell to his knees, exhausted but triumphant. The darkness no longer held power over him. When he finally opened his eyes, his room was illuminated, and the sense of danger had disappeared.

“You did well, Luis,” said the boy in the mirror, his image now clearer and calmer. “You faced your fear and found your light. It will always be with you.”

Luis smiled, feeling a wave of relief. He knew there would always be shadows in the world, but he also knew he had the power to face them. He was not alone, and his light would be his guide.

Days later, Luis returned to the antique shop. This time, instead of fearing the mirror, he felt at peace. He knew he had closed a dark chapter of his life. Upon entering, the shop owner looked at him with a smile.

“You’re back,” the man said in a deep voice. “What have you learned?”

“I learned that darkness can be defeated with light,” Luis replied, with renewed confidence. “I am not afraid.”

“That is what we all must learn,” the man said, nodding. “Light will always find a way to shine, even in the darkest moments.”

Luis smiled, feeling he had overcome a great obstacle. Although the shadows would always be present, he knew he had won the most important battle: the struggle within himself.

As he returned home, the sky cleared, and the sun shone brighter than ever. Luis realized he had grown and learned to face his fears. When he arrived home, he found his family welcoming him with smiles and love.

He would never forget the experience he lived through. The light he had found within would always accompany him. The shadows might lurk, but he had learned not to fear them.

And as life continued, Luis knew that while he might sometimes look toward the darkness, he would always carry the light that would protect him.

The End

Luis learned that true courage is not the absence of fear, but the ability to face it with bravery. Though the shadows might always try to return, he had discovered that the light would always be stronger. His story of struggle against darkness would serve as a reminder that even in the darkest moments, there is always hope and light.

My parents thought they had found a unique opportunity, but I felt something different, something I couldn't explain in words at my young age. When we arrived at the house, my parents' excitement was palpable. However, I didn't share that emotion. The house was in […]
