“United by Blood” -Horror and Suspense Stories
The House
The mansion stood solitary in the heart of an exclusive neighborhood, its white, polished walls contrasting with the dark shroud of mystery that surrounded it. No one in the area could ignore the strange sense of unease that emanated from that house. It was enormous, with windows that seemed like empty eyes watching those who passed by. Inside, the Ortega family lived in a world of appearances: Luis, the father, a successful and wealthy executive; Aurora, the mother, who dedicated herself to caring for the home and their only son, Esteban.
Luis was a strong and domineering man, always dressed in elegant suits, but his wrinkled face and hardened gaze betrayed his bad temper. He was known for his excessive ambition and his constant quest for approval from his colleagues, while Aurora, of calm and serene spirit, dedicated her days to taking care of Esteban, a lonely six-year-old boy who found refuge in his world of toys and stories.
The mansion had a basement that Luis always spoke of with a tone of warning. “Don’t go down to the basement,” he would say. “I have my things down there, and I don’t want anyone to touch them.” Esteban had always felt a strange attraction to that closed door, drawn by the strange noises that came from within. However, both he and Aurora feared Luis, so they never dared to challenge his orders.
One night, while the house was engulfed in silence, Esteban woke up startled by a loud noise coming from the basement. He sat up in bed, his heart pounding. “What could that be?” he thought, his curiosity quickly overcoming his fear. As the sound grew louder, a sense of urgency drove him to get up and approach the hallway door leading to the basement.
Peering in, he saw that the door was slightly ajar. A dim glow illuminated the threshold. Through the crack, his eyes met the figure of a boy, nearly his size, with messy hair and worn clothes. The sight sent a deep chill through him, but before he could react, Luis suddenly appeared on the scene.
—”Esteban!” —he shouted, furious at seeing his son peering through the door—. “What are you doing here?!”
Without hesitation, Luis pushed Esteban, causing him to fall to the ground. Esteban felt a sharp pain in his head before losing consciousness.
When he awoke, he found himself in his bed, wrapped in cold sheets. Confusion enveloped him as he tried to remember what had happened. His mind was foggy, but the memory of the boy in the basement persisted. He looked around; Aurora was deeply asleep in the next room. The moonlight filtered through the window, casting unsettling shadows on the walls.
Esteban sat up in bed, his mind racing with questions that had no answers. “What happened to the boy?” he wondered. A deep fear gripped him as he recalled the face of the unknown child. The following nights were a constant nightmare, filled with sounds and moans coming from the basement, a place he had never dared to descend.
Aurora, despite the noises, remained asleep. She always slept. Esteban wondered if there was something his mother could do, but the image of his father, furious, made him doubt whether it was worth trying to tell her what was happening.
Esteban’s curiosity led him to make a decision. One night, while Luis was out, Esteban gathered his courage and approached the basement door. He knew it was dangerous, but he could no longer ignore the sounds that filled his nights with terror. The door creaked as it opened, revealing a dark staircase that descended into an abyss of uncertainty.
With his heart pounding, he descended step by step, feeling the cold air emanating from the depths. As he neared the bottom of the stairs, darkness enveloped him, and the echoes of his footsteps resonated in the void. Suddenly, a blood-curdling scream made him stop in his tracks. That was when he saw a shadow moving in the dim light.
Terrified, Esteban felt adrenaline coursing through his body. Determined to face his fears, he moved a little closer, and as he shined his flashlight, he saw the deformed boy curled up in a dark corner under the stairs. Horror flooded over him as he realized that the boy was not only real but was also suffering.
The boy looked at him with sad, desperate eyes. Esteban felt a strange connection to him, as if they shared a pain neither of them could express. He approached cautiously.
—”Who are you?” —he asked, his voice trembling.
—”I am… I am your brother,” —the boy replied, his voice a broken whisper—. “I have always been here.”
Esteban couldn’t believe what he heard. Confusion and fear mixed in his mind. The boy, who had never had a name, continued speaking.
—”Dad keeps me hidden because… because I am different. He has always been ashamed of me. But you… you are perfect for him.”
Esteban felt the air growing thick. The deformed brother explained that from his birth he had been rejected, beaten, and kept in the basement to hide his existence. Memories of Luis hitting him when he was stressed vividly flashed in his mind. The boy spoke of the deep sadness he had always felt, of the absence of love that had marked their lives.
—”Mom has never helped us,” —the boy continued—. “She is always sleeping because she takes pills. She doesn’t know what goes on here.”
As the night wore on, the two boys began to share their stories. Esteban felt a new emotion welling up inside him: anger. Not only toward his father, but also toward his mother, who seemed indifferent to the suffering occurring under her own roof.
The deformed brother, who now had found a name in Esteban’s mind, spoke of his pain and how his father had treated him like an animal. Fury took hold of them, turning fear into a desire for revenge.
—”We can’t let this continue,” —Esteban said determinedly—. “We have to do something.”
They looked into each other’s eyes, and at that moment, a pact formed between them. A pact of blood and vengeance. Anger filled them, and as they shared their pain, the desire to make Luis and Aurora feel their suffering became a clear goal.
In the following days, Esteban and his brother began to plan their revenge. They met in the basement, where they felt safer, and devised strategies to make their parents pay for the pain they had caused them. Each night, the noises in the house intensified, as if the very walls knew what they were plotting.
Aurora continued to sleep deeply, oblivious to the storm brewing in her home. Esteban often wondered if she would ever wake up from her slumber. Guilt began to torment him, but the anger he felt toward his father was stronger. The desire for justice eclipsed any remorse.
Luis, on his part, had noticed Esteban’s strange behavior. He saw him lurking near the basement and had begun to suspect that something was amiss. However, his arrogant nature prevented him from approaching and asking. In his mind, there was only room for work and success; his family was an accessory in his life.

The Night of Revenge
Finally, the night arrived when they decided to execute their plan. Esteban and his brother prepared, fear and adrenaline intertwining in their veins. They had waited for a long time, and now the moment had come. With a flashlight in one hand and a small knife they had found in the kitchen, they headed to their parents’ bedroom.
The air in the house was charged with tension. The strange noises had ceased, as if the house was holding its breath. As they reached Luis and Aurora’s room, Esteban felt his heart pounding in his chest. It was now or never.
—”Are you ready?” —the brother asked, his voice trembling with excitement and fear.
Esteban nodded. With shaking hands, he pushed the door open, which creaked softly. The room was dark, and the only light came from the moon filtering through the window. Aurora and Luis slept, oblivious to the storm that was about to unfold.
As they approached the bed, Esteban felt a knot in his stomach. The image of his father, who had been so domineering and terrifying, made him hesitate for a moment. But looking at his brother, remembering all the pain they had suffered, his determination returned.
Luis suddenly woke up, his eyes opened, and confusion quickly turned to fury upon seeing his sons standing beside the bed.
—”What the hell are you doing here?” —he shouted, getting up abruptly.
—”Dad, you no longer have power over us!” —Esteban yelled, raising the trembling knife in his hand.
Luis scoffed dismissively, but the sound faded when he saw the expression on his son’s face. Anger and desperation swirled into a storm within him, and he realized that something had changed.
—”What have you done?” —he asked, his tone changing as he grasped the gravity of the situation.
Esteban, feeling time stop, lunged at his father. The fury contained for years erupted in a desperate act. Luis, taken by surprise, tried to stop his son, but it was too late. The knife found its way to Luis’s heart, and a piercing scream filled the room.
Aurora woke at the sound of the scream, and upon seeing the scene, her face turned pale. Confusion quickly transformed into horror. Esteban realized that he had crossed a line, and as his father fell to the floor, the adrenaline that had propelled him to act evaporated, leaving him paralyzed.
—”Esteban!” —Aurora shouted, rushing to her husband’s side. Despair consumed her as she realized what had just happened. She reached for the phone, but the brother intervened.
—”No!” —he yelled, panic filling his voice—. “We can’t let anyone know what we did!”
Aurora, lost in her grief, couldn’t comprehend the situation. Esteban, still in shock, felt a deep pang of regret, but there was no going back.
The house, once a symbol of their family’s opulence, became a prison of guilt. The brothers shared a knowing look, understanding that their lives would never be the same again. The pact had been sealed in blood, and there was no escape from the weight of their actions.
As the first rays of sunlight illuminated the room, the brothers stood over their father’s body, a chill running down their spines. The house would keep its secrets, but the darkness that dwelled within would never truly vanish. They had awakened a monster, and now they were part of it.
