‘’Missing’’ 2023: Movie Review

Article arrow_drop_down

“Missing” is a 2023 film that attempts to captivate its audience with a blend of suspense and modern digital intrigue. While it succeeds in maintaining attention at certain points, the film ultimately falls short of being truly innovative. The narrative, despite its potential, lacks the freshness that would compel viewers to revisit it, leaving a sense of unfulfilled expectations, particularly with its climax.

The storyline revolves around June, whose mother goes missing while on vacation in Colombia with her new boyfriend. Confronted with bureaucratic obstacles and the physical distance of being in Los Angeles, June leverages the latest technology to search for her mother. Her digital detective work, involving tools and platforms available at her fingertips, becomes a crucial element of the plot. Yet, this high-tech sleuthing often seems implausibly effective, diminishing the tension and credibility of the storyline.

One of the film’s notable shortcomings is how it portrays the resolution of complex, decades-old cases with oversimplified methods. June’s ability to untangle long-standing mysteries using basic internet searches, particularly Google, feels contrived and undermines the seriousness of the narrative. This aspect of the plot comes across as almost absurd, detracting from the intended suspense and drama.

The film also suffers from an overuse of plot twists and narrative shifts, which, rather than enhancing the mystery, end up feeling like distractions. These constant changes might initially engage the audience, but they eventually lead to a sense of fatigue and disconnection from the story. The ending, anticipated to be a climactic resolution after all the build-up, turns out to be disappointingly predictable and lacks the punch needed to leave a lasting impression.

Despite its shortcomings, “Missing” does offer moments of genuine tension and a contemporary take on the detective genre through the lens of digital technology. However, the reliance on familiar tropes and an unsatisfactory conclusion prevents it from standing out. The film’s potential is marred by its execution, leaving audiences yearning for more depth and innovation in its storytelling.

"The Legend of the Alley – Midnight’s Revenge" Horror Tales My name is Daniel, and to be honest, I never believed in ghosts or urban legends. However, what happened to me in that small Colombian town at midnight on a Wednesday changed my perspective radically. I will never forget that night, an experience that, to this day, makes me question what I thought I knew about reality. It was a rainy summer night in the tiny town where I was staying. The place, with its dark alleys and dilapidated houses, seemed straight out of a Gothic novel. The rain fell persistently, creating puddles on the ground and generating a constant sound of drops hitting the pavement. I was walking down a narrow alley, my head bowed under the hood of my coat, trying to avoid getting wet more than necessary. […]

In ‘’In Our Blood’’, the plot revolves around Emily Wyland (Brittany O’Grady), a filmmaker who decides to document her strained relationship with her mother, Sam (Alanna Ubach), after a decade-long separation caused by addiction.
